Indian opener Murali Vijay was dropped for the Windies Tests after a dismal performance in England. It was a huge let down for the Tamil Nadu cricketer who has been a pretty consistent performer in the longest format for India from 2013. But Prithvi Shaw’s injury could be a blessing in disguise for him as Vijay aims to score big and consolidate his position.

A career-defining series lies ahead for the 34-year-old as a poor performance here can bring an end to his International career. He will be confident of replicating his heroics from the previous visits here, where scored 482 runs at a staggering average of 60.25. His experience will come in very handy to tackle the strong Aussie bowling attack.

Much to his delight, Vijay slammed a hundred in the tour game against Cricket Australia XI and his scoring rate was above 90. The way he shifted gears in the second half of his innings was symptomatic of his confidence and in his words, he is all set for the big game coming up.

“Basically, I am ready, I just want to go out there and contribute and give a good start for my team. I have always been aiming at that and nothing different this time. It’s an interesting series for us and hopefully we can start it well,” cricket.com.au quoted Vijay as saying after the match against the four-day warm-up match Cricket Australia XI.

Have great memories in Adelaide

Last time the 34-year-old opened at the Adelaide Oval, he registered fifty-plus scores in both the innings. He fell one run short of a hundred in the second innings and will be keen to get a three-figure score this time. Vijay too recollected the fond memories of his previous visit and said he’s looking forward to it.

“Always feels good to go to grounds where you have scored runs, it helps you a lot and I have good memories of it and looking forward to the Adelaide Test,” Vijay said.
