Australia vs India: Ishant Sharma sends Aaron Finch's stumps flying in Adelaide
Finch bagged a duck in his maiden Test outing at home.
Test Cricket is a delight to watch when a fast bowler sends the batsman’s stumps cartwheeling. The same happened in the first over of Australia’s innings on the second morning in Adelaide. It took only one delivery for the hosts to pick India’s last wicket but then even the Aussies wouldn’t have thought they will get off to such a dreadful start. It was all possible due to Ishant Sharma’s inswinger even as Aaron Finch went for an expansive drive.
Australia’s opener made the same mistake which Indian batsmen did on the opening day of the series. He didn’t give himself and tried to dominate the proceedings. But that doesn’t take anything away from Ishant who set him up nicely by staying in the zone of uncertainty from the first ball.
Ishant Sharma bowled the first ball on a good length which Finch let go to the wicket-keeper and then started the mind games. The next ball was a little fuller and came in even as the batsman shouldered his arms only to get hit on the pads. The vociferous appeal followed but it would’ve missed the stumps given the bounce in the wicket.
Dream ball follows
The lanky fast bowler ran in for his third ball with his tail up sensing a chance and delivered in the perfect channel to lure a drive from Aaron Finch. The Victorian, like he does in limited-overs cricket, went for a full-blooded drive and played onto his stumps. His off and middle pole went flying as the sparse Australian crowd was left shocked.
There was an elation in the Indian camp as the captain Virat Kohli roared with all his intensity like he usually does. The perfect start for India in the defence of 250 runs led to the other bowlers also bowling well as Ravi Ashwin has got stuck into the Aussie batsmen now and the game is nicely poised.
