Australia vs India: Matthew Wade bizarrely gets run-out after Virat Kohli drops his catch in Sydney
Matthew Wade presumed that Kohli had caught him. But that wasn't the case.
Australia and India are currently involved in the second of the three-match T20I series. The action shifted to the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday for the final set of white-ball matches ahead of the much-awaited four-match Test series. Both the sides missed some of their top players from the XI, especially the hosts who have suffered a spate of injuries since the second ODI against India.
The likes of Aaron Finch, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc missed the game with Matthew Wade taking over the mantle of the team. He became the 11th T20I captain of Australia and rightfully led from the front with the bat after India opted to bowl first. Wade opened the innings despite Marcus Stoinis playing and took the attack to the opposition from the word go.
He reached the 50-run mark in just 25 balls as Australia got off to a flying start. But Matthew Wade got out in bizarre way in the 8th over of the innings. Washington Sundar delivered the final ball of the over a little slow even as the batsman ran down the track. However, Wade closed the bat’s face early and top-edged it.
Virat Kohli drops but is aware of a run-out chance
The ball lobbed towards India skipper Virat Kohli who was fielding at cover. He jumped to get hold of an easy catch and fumbled twice only to drop it. Everyone was in disbelief for a second before a run-out chance was offered. Both Smith and Matthew Wade found themselves at the centre of the pitch as the latter gave up presuming that he was caught by Kohli.
But that wasn’t the case and by the time he realised, the Indian captain had thrown the ball to the wicket-keeper KL Rahul and he disturbed the stumps to catch Matthew Wade short of his crease. It was all chaos in the middle and the batsman himself was to be blamed for not being aware that he was dropped.
