The highly anticipated day-night Test between Australia and India got underway on Thursday at the Adelaide Oval. India skipper Virat Kohli called it right at the toss and opted to bat first. While the visitors had announced their playing XI a day before the Test, Tim Paine had chosen not to reveal much about Australia’s XI. However, as expected, the lanky all-rounder Cameron Green was handed his Test debut.
He had to clear the fitness and concussion test after being hit on the head by Jasprit Bumrah during the day-night warm-up game last week. Green was substituted out of the match soon after the incident and his participation was under the cloud for the opening Test. But the youngster managed to recover just in time for the match and became 459th Test player for Australia.
Cameron Green, however, endured a hilariously awkward moment first up on the ground as skipper Tim Paine handed him the ball in the 17th over only to take the ball away from him. Rather the Australian captain changed his mind at the last moment and told Pat Cummins to continue with his spell.
Meanwhile, Cameron Green, who looked excited and nervous after being told to ball had a sheepish look as he endured an awkward moment on the field. Eventually, the 6 ft 7 inch tall bowler was introduced into the attack in the 23rd over of the innings and he began with a no-ball.

Cameron Green impressed in warm-up game
Cameron Green impressed many with his all-round abilities in the first warm-up game against India. This is when the all-rounder’s stocks rose quickly. He smashed a very good century for Australia A against India’s second-choice bowling attack comprising of Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav and Kartik Tyagi. But lanky cricketer batted superbly to bail the team out of trouble first and then also looked decent with the ball.
The debutant will be keen on making an impact in this series in the absence of the preferred all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who has recovered only recently from injury but is not bowling yet.
