Only time will tell whether Rishabh Pant will be able to fill the large void left by MS Dhoni in Tests. The highly-rated youngster is seen by many as the worthy successor of the legendary former India skipper. But as far as matching Dhoni’s vocal abilities is concerned, Pant looks primed to leave even his illustrious predecessor behind. The ongoing first Test between India and Australia at Adelaide has seen a different facet of the 21-year-old.

Throughout the game, the Delhi-born star has made his presence felt from behind the stumps. From advising senior pro Ravi Ashwin to taking a cheeky dig at Usman Khawaja‘s defensive play, Pant did not squander a single chance to show how talented he is with his mouth. Well, another incident took place on the first session of the final day of the game.

Pat Cummins had just walked in to bat at a precarious situation.  Australia’s no. 8 was yet to open his account even after facing more than two overs. Sensing an opportunity to get under the skin of his former Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) teammate, Pant went for it. And the result was as hilarious as it could get.

The India wicketkeeper constantly reminded Cummins of going for the big shot, saying, “Let’s see some sixes, come on Patty!”. Rishabh Pant was also heard saying how tough it was to survive on the pitch.

Here is a clip showing the hilarious incident:

India in sight of a historic victory

India, meanwhile, have put themselves firmly in the driver’s seat. Travis Head and Shaun Marsh had started the proceedings with the bat on Day five with the hosts pretty much on the backfoot. Australia were 104 for 4 in their pursuit of 322. Marsh and Head could add only 11 runs to the overnight score before the latter edged a short delivery from Ishant Sharma straight to Ajinkya Rahane at gully.

Marsh departed soon too after reaching his fifty after which the skipper Tim Paine and Pat Cummins went unscathed until lunch. But the former was snaffled soon by Jasprit Bumrah even as the tail is once again troubling the visitors which has become a norm these days.
