Australia began their home season with a record 134-run win in the first of the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at the Adelaide Oval. David Warner returned to form with his maiden T20I century on his 33rd birthday which he brought up on the last ball of Australian inning. Aaron Finch (64) and Glenn Maxwell (62) scored quick fifties as the hosts finished with 233/2 in their 20 overs. Sri Lanka kept losing wickets from the very first over and ended up with only 99/9 despite playing full 20 overs.

All the statistical highlights from Australia’s biggest win in T20I cricket:

A record win for the Aussies:

134 – Australia’s 134-run win in this match is their biggest T20I win in terms of runs. Only once before, the Australian team won a T20I by a margin of 100+ runs. They beat Zimbabwe by exactly 100 runs in the last year’s Harare T20I.

This is also the first time that Sri Lanka lost a T20I by a margin of 100+ runs. Their previous biggest T20I defeat in terms of runs was by 93 runs against India in the 2017 Cuttack T20I.

Biggest total in Australia:

233/2 – Australia’s total of 233/2 in this game is the highest T20I total in Australia surpassing their total of 221/5 against England in the 2007 Sydney T20I. This is also the joint-highest T20I total on Australian soil. Victoria posted 233/7 against New South Wales in 2006 Australian T20 Cup.

Top three’s domination:

1 – Australia’s innings is only the 2nd in history of Twenty20 format where three individuals scored 60+ runs. Each of Yorkshire’s top-three batsmen scored 67 or more runs apiece during the T20 Blast this year against Leicestershire.

The previous closest occurrence in the T20I format was recorded by India during the 2007 WT20 where their top three scored at least 58 runs against England.

3 – Australia recorded only the 3rd instance of two century partnerships in the same T20I innings. They had two 100-run stands during the 2013 Southampton T20I against England while Namibia replicated this feat against Botswana in August this year.

However, the Australian innings against Sri Lanka is the first-ever with two century partnerships for the first two wickets in Men’s T20I cricket.

Warner’s record knock:

1 – David Warner became the first player to score a T20I hundred on a birthday.

2 – Warner is only the 2nd player to score a century in all three International formats on Australia soil after Shane Watson.

List of records David Warner created with his maiden T20I century

Most expensive spell:

0/75Kasun Rajitha conceded 75 runs in his four overs; the most runs conceded by any bowler in a T20I. Tunahan Turan of Turkey conceded 70 runs in this year’s T20I against the Czech Republic. Overall, the 75 runs conceded by Rajitha are the 4th most by any player in a T20 game.
