The Challengers would want to finish the tournament on a high when they face the challenge of Delhi Daredevils later this evening.
Missing the first few matches of the Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper has failed to regain the form he showed in the recent home season. Australian batsman Travis Head, who is an integral part of the RCB unit this season has suggested that Kohli has been their model leader throughout the season, despite them finishing at the bottom of the table.
Australian batsman Travis Head, who is an integral part of the RCB unit this season has suggested that Kohli has been their model leader throughout the season, despite them finishing at the bottom of the table. The Challengers, despite boasting a top-order batting heavy team has failed to make an impact in the tournament, with as many as six consecutive losses against the other IPL teams. The side from Bangalore has only to managed to win two games from the 13 games they have played thus far in the tournament.
Kohli has failed to reach the pinnacle that he had reached last season with the Challengers finishing as the leading run-scorer in the tournament with over 900 runs. This season the skipper has fallen short and plain with only 250 runs at an average of 27 and a strike rate 121, with the other Challengers, faring worse than the skipper.
Despite the criticisms for the captain over the stretch of the tournament, Head continues to support the captain suggesting his captaincy has been top-notch.
“You don’t like playing against him but you want him in your side,” Head told cricket.com.au ahead of RCB’s dead-rubber final match against Delhi Daredevils.
“He’s just got an unbelievable record and is someone you want in your side. “He’s really emotional but when you play with him he’s fantastic. But you don’t want to play against him. He led from the front last year and he was unbelievable with the bat, but he plays with his heart on the line and really aggressively.” added the left-hander.
The left-hander also had a few words to say regarding the tournament thus far, saying “It’s just been this tournament he hasn’t been able to get on a roll and get any momentum up. “He’s fantastic around the group, I can’t fault him at RCB.”
Injuries’ had its say this season:
Head, concluded by saying that the injuries to several key players took its toll on the Challengers performance and aided the other teams better.
“Different injuries and losing guys like KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, losing a couple of young guys who did well last year and with AB missing a few games here and there with injury, we’ve changed the team a lot and it’s been hard to get momentum.
