The Australian Cricket Team, during the start of the second ODI at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, was seen wearing black armbands to pay homage to former fast bowler Bob Holland, who lost his battle to Brain Cancer at the age of 70. The passing away of Holland came two days after he attended a tribute dinner in his honour in Newcastle. He played 11 Tests for Australia, taking 34 wickets, as well as playing 95 first-class matches representing the New South Wales.

Bob ‘Dutchy’ Holland played 11 Tests for Australia, taking 34 wickets, as well as playing 95 first-class matches representing the New South Wales. Australians currently have locked horns with the Indian team, rich in form, after their tour to Sri Lanka and West Indies. They lost the opening game at Chennai by 26 runs by DLS method in a rain-curtailed match.

“He had the best time of his life on Friday where he spent time with a lot of his mates at his dinner. My family are humbled by and appreciate the support of the community and his friends for their support in the past and recent difficult times,” commented his son, Craig, according to The Newcastle Herald.

Entire Australian Cricket Fraternity shocked because of the sudden demise

“I’m very glad I made the effort to go on Friday, I think we’re all a little bit shocked because I don’t think any of us thought it would end so quickly. Bob Holland will rest easy knowing he took ten wickets twice in a Test at the SCG, and also a five-for at Lord’s. That’s not a bad double to have.” quoted former Australian captain Mark Taylor according to World Wide Sports.

“He was a real competitor, he loved the game of cricket and really enjoyed the competition, but played it in the absolute best way you could play the game. I’m sure he didn’t enjoy getting belted back over his head for six, but as a good spinner does he’d come in next ball and try and get you out,” further added Taylor.
