Australian Women's pacer Megan Schutt claims World No.1 ranking
Schutt took a hat-trick against the Indians in the recently-concluded T20I tri-series.
25-year old Australian pacer Megan Schutt has ascended to the top of the ICC charts for women bowlers following what was an impressive outing in her recently-concluded Indian tour. Although Schutt has come under the radar several times, she has adapted herself and now become perhaps the most successful bowler in the world cricket.
Schutt will be best remembered for her hat-trick against the Indians in the T20 international played at the CCI ground in Mumbai against the Indians. She concluded with figures of 3/13 against England in the final, something that secured her the player of the match award as well. Schutt has also leap-frogged Kiwi Leigh Kasperek in the T20I rankings and remains in second place in the ODI rankings as well.
This, however, is not the first time the 25-year old has held the top spot in the rankings. She held it briefly in November 2015 before conceding it.
Megan is always willing to adapt, says skipper Lanning
Meg Lanning, the incumbent skipper of the Australian side also went ahead and praised her teammate following the news that she is indeed one of the best in the world.
“I think Megan is always willing to adapt her game and try new things,” Lanning said. “We’ve been forced to do that. As a bowler in these conditions, you need to be able to take that head on and be proactive and that’s been the best thing; Megan’s been willing to try things we haven’t done before, trusting we’ve got the plans and if you execute, it works really well.
“That’s the key, she’s been able to execute more often than not.”
