Sourav Ganguly and Geoffrey Boycott have long shared a cordial relationship. They say that it is difficult to converse with the Yorkshireman at times but Ganguly has always found a way in being successful at that. Back in the day when Boycott would be in the commentary box, he would often refer to Ganguly as the ‘Prince of Calcutta.’ In fact, legend has it that it was Boycott himself who coined the nickname for the man from Calcutta.

The times have changed drastically. Then the Indian team’s captain Ganguly is currently the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. On Thursday, he arrived in London to watch the Indian team play at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Boycott and Ganguly were seen chatting with each other in the stands during the first day’s play.

As soon as the sight of the two chatting with each other was displayed during the broadcast of the England-India match, fans on Twitter became nostalgic. In the past, Boycott has been heard saying lovely things about the former Indian captain. Ganguly, too, has previously referred to Boycott as one of his close acquaintances.

Ganguly has some very fond memories at Lord’s

Ganguly has come down to London, presumably for the Test match, and was seen alongside his wife, Dona Ganguly. Among others, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was also seen. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla was also present in the stands alongside England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) CEO, Tom Harrison.

Ganguly has several fond memories with the Lord’s Cricket Ground. The former Indian batsman made his Test debut at the venue and made 131 runs in his very first innings in 1996 and he held the record for the highest score for a debutant at Lords until it was broken by Devon Conway, who made 200 in his Test debut at Lord’s in June.

Ganguly has also given Lord’s an iconic moment when he took off his shirt and celebrated on the balcony after India won the Natwest Trophy final 2002. The Indian captain had played a fantastic knock in that match as well, which set up India’s run chase of 325 runs. He scored 60 runs from 43 balls in that game.
