Baheer Shah becomes the 2nd youngest player to score a triple century in first-class cricket
At the age of 18 years and 251 days, the Afghanistan player became the 2nd youngest to score a triple century.
Afghanistan player Baheer Shah has been setting records ever since he made his debut in first-class cricket earlier this season. Afghanistan’s 4-day tournament named as Alokozay Ahmad Shah Abdali attained the first-class status from this season and has been in the news, thanks to some special records by the 18-year-old Baheer. On Thursday, Baheer to become the first Afghanistan player to score a triple century in FC cricket with an unbeaten 303.
The right-handed batsman who plays for Speen Ghar Region scored an unbeaten 256 on his FC debut against Amo Region, the 2nd highest individual score for any player on FC debut. Amol Muzumdar holds the record for scoring 260 on his debut in 1994. At the age of 18 years and 233 days, Baheer became the youngest ever to score a double century on FC debut.
He had a lean 2nd game against the same opposition where he scored 34 and 11 runs respectively but smashed twin centuries in his 3rd FC game against Boost Region with 111 and 116 in respective innings. In his 4th FC game started on November 7th, He followed his twin centuries with an unbeaten triple century against the Boost Region side. Coming out to bat on the 2nd day after the opposition posted 355 in their first innings, Baheer shared a 311-run stand with Nasir Khan for the 2nd wicket.
He batted till the end of their innings scoring 303* off 465 balls with 36 fours and a six to take Speen Ghar to 648/7 before they declared their innings. Thus, at the age of 18 years and 251 days, the Afghanistan player became the 2nd youngest to score a triple century in first-class cricket. The only younger player than Baheer to score an FC triple was Javed Miandad at the age of 17 years and 310 days.
By scoring his 2nd double century before turning 19 years, Baheer became only the 2nd player in FC history to have two double centuries before turning 19. Imran Farhat scored two double centuries in his 18s during the 2000/01 season. In the six innings Baheer has batted in his four first-class matches, he scored a record 831 runs at an astonishing average of 207.75.
