Australia thrashed Sri Lanka in the first Test match in Galle, completing the victory by ten wickets. The match was completed in the first session of Day 3 and the chase was completed in only four balls. In the 23rd over of Sri Lanka’s second innings, Travis Head successfully beat Jeffrey Vandersay through the gate and knocked the top of the leg stump. As the rest of the Aussies were celebrating the dismissal, Warner at leg slip was down in pain as the leg-stump bail that hit him in the groin area. He fell to the ground in pain initially and smiled shortly after as he was picking himself up.
A clip showing the incident was shared by a fan on Twitter, to which a user commented, “Normally the ball dislodges the bail. In this case the bail dislodges the ball.” Another use wrote: “Had it hit him a split second earlier his hands would’ve gone down and the ball would’ve hit his face as well – at least he got his mits on the ball,” wrote another.

Australia complete their fastest victory in 20 years
Sri Lanka were nothing short of disappointing as their batters simply could not cope with the Aussie spinners on a wicket that was offering a lot of turn. The hosts, after bowling out Australia for 321 and conceding a lead of 109, needed a strong batting performance in the second innings.
Openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka tried to take on the Aussie bowlers, starting with 17 runs in the first over, but the Lankan procession began when the spinners got into the act. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon and leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson ripped through the top-order, picking up two wickets each in the first 13 overs of the innings. And then came Head who cleaned up the tail before picking up two key wickets of Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva.
Both Lyon and Head finished with four wickets each, and Sri Lanka were bowled out for 113. The Australian chase in the fourth innings was merely a formality and the win was complete within the first session of the day. It was Australia’s quickest Test win in 20 years.
