Bangladesh Cricket Board to review punishment for the two banned second division teams

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced that it will review the punishment that it had taken on the two-second division teams during last year’s competition for a deliberate act. The teams were deliberately losing games as an act of protest against biased umpiring. BCB committee chairman Jalal Yunus, who is part of the inquiry committee told the media that the two teams have requested for reconsideration by the two teams.

“We have received appeals from some of the players and clubs. I think Lalmatia have put in a request recently too, and one of the captains has also submitted a letter. We are going to sit for a review soon,” Yunus told reporters yesterday.

The incident happened on the 2nd of May, last year when BCB banned two pacers for 10 years for bowling deliberate no-balls and wides in Dhaka Second Division League. Further, they canceled the affiliations of their club from the league, in itself.

Lalmatia Club’s Sujon Mahmud and Fear Fighters Sporting Club’s Tasnim Hasan effectively ended their career after the probe found them to be guilty of bringing disrepute to the game.

What exactly had happened?

In a fifty over the game last year, Sujon sent down a total of 13 wides and three no-balls in the very first over of the game. All of the 16 deliveries went to the boundary, costing his side a total of 80 runs. Lalmatia ended their innings at 88 runs off the 14 overs they played losing all the wickets.

Meanwhile, Axiom Cricketers chased down the total in just four balls of the innings scoring 92 runs. The incident found the end of the tunnel, and the news began spreading like wildfire in the country. the BCB formed a three-member inquiry committee in its Board of Directors meeting on April 22, to look into the matter.

Who was banned?

While further investigations cleared that it was not the first time that they had conceded so many runs in a losing cause. Earlier in the tournament, Tasnim of Fear Fighters conceded 69 runs off seven balls in a separate game in the same league against eventual champions Indira Road KC

There is a wide-spread ban on the captain, coach, senior staffs and the Fear Fighter captain till 2022. “We are hopeful that BCB would reconsider their judgment about us,” Fear Fighters coach-cum-manager Anwarul Mustakim told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.
