Bangladesh cricket team chief selector expresses grief following Sridevi's death
Sridevi was an extremely popular figure in Bangladesh.
The outpouring of grief following Sridevi’s sudden demise last week continues. The entire nation mourned as one of India’s iconic actors, Sridevi suffered an unfortunate demise. The sudden news of Sridevi’s death on Saturday sent shockwaves throughout the country. The actor, aged 54, reportedly died due to a sudden cardiac arrest while in Dubai. Husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi were also with the actress in Dubai for nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding.
Dubai police also ruled out any foul play and the body was sent for the last rites in Mumbai on Wednesday. Sridevi, whose sudden death last Saturday shattered fans and colleagues, was dressed as a bride and wrapped in the national flag as her last rites were completed yesterday.
Apart from the silver screen family, many other celebrities too poured in condolences for the family. While sports personalities in India and Pakistan have shared their condolences to one of the finest Indian actors, it is now learned that Sridevi was also a popular figure in Bangladesh, reveals cricket team chief selector Minazul Abedian.
According to Deccan Chronicle, speaking from Dhaka Abedian said, “Sridevi was one of the first female superstars in Bollywood. We are and always will be avid fans of her.”
He added, “We saw many of her films and liked all of them. Sadly, her death is talked about the controversy and that’s what saddens us most. We deeply regret her loss.”
Bangladesh gear up for Nidahas Trophy
Bangladesh will take on hosts Sri Lanka and India in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, which kicks off on March 6. The tournament marks Sri Lanka’s 70 years of independence. The Bangladeshi Tigers play their opener against India on March 8.
The Indian team, on the other hand, will be coming on the back of an extremely successful tour of South Africa as they aim to replicate the success in the Island nation as well.
