Bangladesh cricketers end their strike after BCB guaranteed to implement their demands

Things weren’t in great shape in Bangladesh cricket over the past couple of days or so. A number of players from the country, including senior names like Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim, held a press conference at the national capital in Dhaka. They went into a strike where they put forth a 11-point demand list to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Thereafter, BCB chief Nazmul Hasan Papon lashed out in a media interaction, saying that the players didn’t tell the board about their issues and instead stopped playing cricket. The tussle also put under clouds the Tigers’ tour of India, scheduled to get underway on November 3. The situation worsened to such an extent that PM Sheikh Hasina wanted Mashrafe Mortaza to resolve issue.

Earlier in Wednesday, it was learned that two more demands were added to the list. However, after all the hustle and bustle, things have started to get better between the players and the BCB. As per reports in ESPNcricinfo, the Bangladesh players have decided to end their strike. The country’s cricket board has finally accepted all the demands and they will soon be implemented.

India’s tour of Bangladesh to go ahead

The players went to the BCB officials after discussing among themselves at a local hotel. The national cricketers will be returning to cricketing activities from Friday, October 25. The players will also return to playing the National Cricket League (NCL). The earlier strike has meant that the Bangladesh players have missed the start of the conditioning camp for the tour of India.

“Today’s talks were good. But we will be happy and satisfied when everything will be implemented. We call off the strike, and return to playing NCL and national camp from Friday,” Shakib was quoted as saying. As far as the demands are concerned, one was regarding changing the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to the old format. Another one was to increase the salary of the first-class players.

Back in September, the Tigers lost the one-off Test versus Rashid Khan’s Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram and that rung the alarm bells in the Bangladesh camp. Shakib lately said that cricketers in the country were being suppressed for some reasons. In the tour of India, Bangladesh will play three T20Is followed by a couple of Tests in Indore and Kolkata.
