Former Australian middle order batsman, Michael Hussey, popularly known as Mr Cricket, admitted that Bangladesh has earned a well-deserved spot in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy. He also stated that sides cannot help but improve under the coaching of Chandika Hathurusingha.

The ties between Michael Hussey and Chandika Hathurusingha go back to the Big Bash League when both were part of the Sydney Thunder. It is said that both Hussey and Hathurusingha shared a good rapport in their stint with the Sydney Thunder.

Mr Cricket believes that the team have many quality players who have been represented their team for a while now and share a good chemistry in between the. Hussey, obviously, remained disappointed about the Australian’s exit from the mini-world cup but also agreed that out of the three sides(Ban, Aus, and NZ), Bangladesh deserved a spot in the semi-finals.

Hussey talks about improvement of Bangladesh

“Well, obviously they are a well-deserved side to reach the semi-final. And I must say they have improved a lot. I think they have some very talented players like Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim” quoted Michael Hussey according to Dhaka Tribune.

“I think these cricketers have been playing cricket for a long time together and they gel around pretty well. And at the same time, I must say their experience have worked out well for the team. They now play as a unit with some very talented youngsters in the side, making them a very good side” said the former Chennai Super Kings opener.

“What to say, I am a bit frustrated. Obviously, Australia is out of the tournament. But yes, I am happy to see Bangladesh’s progress. There is no chance of not improving if you have a coach like Hathurusingha.” concluded the 42-year-old. Bangladesh has an uphill task to overhaul the Indian side in the second semi-finals, scheduled to be held at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
