Bangladesh don't have the mindset to play Test cricket: BCB President Nazmul Hasan

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan has slammed the national team and taken a dig saying that they lack the attitude to play Test cricket. Bangladesh’s recent red-ball series against South Africa was a disaster as they failed, losing 0-2.

The players fought hard but could not withstand Proteas’ spinner Keshav Maharaj, who made it difficult for the batters to score in both the games of the series. South Africa lacked the core members of the team due to the ongoing IPL 2022, however, they still managed to take an upper hand over Bangladesh.

Bangladesh will be hosting Sri Lanka next for a Test series that is set to begin from May 15. Hasan believes that the players do not have the right mindset to play the game for a long duration.

“I want to know why we are performing like this in Tests. The coaching staff was giving me examples of four to five Tests and they feel that we can compete in the opening Test but we surrender in the second Test. It happened against Pakistan at home while it was the same in New Zealand and South Africa,” Hasan was quoted saying by India Today.

“The problem is that those who play Test cricket are not taking part in the domestic longer-version cricket and so they don’t have the habit of playing for a long time. Now with the international schedule we have, there is hardly any gap, and so even if we want, we cannot make them play domestic cricket, otherwise, we have to stop domestic cricket,” he added.

Bangladesh created history by defeating New Zealand by eight wickets in January this year but the Kiwis thrashed them by an innings and 117 runs in the second game to end the series in a draw. Meanwhile, Hasan stated that he sought skipper Mominul Haque’s evaluation of the team as well as an understanding of his strategy for the series against Sri Lanka.
