Bangladesh players recently returned back home from New Zealand after a curtailed Test series against New Zealand. The players found themselves in a scary situation a day before the last Test, as they were minutes from reaching the Christchurch mosque where the worst mass shootings in the country’s history. However, they are now back in Bangladesh and are looking for some time off from international cricket.

Bangladesh next play the Windies and Ireland in May, in a tri-series hosted by Ireland in preparation for the World Cup. In the meantime, with no international cricket to look forward to, the players have looked to progress in their personal lives, with quite a few taking this opportunity to get married. Mominul Haque is scheduled to marry in April, and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan tied the knot with his longtime fiancé on Friday. Interestingly, just a few hours after Mehidy, Mustafizur Rahman followed suit.

The 23-year-old fast bowler got married to Samia Parvin Shimu, an undergraduate student at Dhaka University, in a private ceremony on Friday evening at Hadipur in Satkhira where only the families and other relatives were present. The bride is Mustafizur’s cousin on the maternal side, said Mustafizur’s brother, Mokhlesur Rahman Poltu to a Bangladeshi website on Thursday. “A ceremony will be organised in the capital later for BCB players, officials, friends, and well-wishers,” Mokhlesur added.  The date of the marriage ceremony will be fixed on Friday, according to him.

The wedding reception to be held after the World Cup

Mustafizur was shocked after the Christchurch incident, according to another brother, Mahfuzur Rahman Mithu, who asked the countrymen to pray for the newly-weds. Mithu said, “Mustafizur was really upset after coming home, following the incident in New Zealand. That’s why we decided to get him married. It was my mother’s decision. The wedding reception will take place after the World Cup.”

Mustafizur had not been given the NOC by Bangladesh Cricket Board to appear for the IPL auctions after being released by the Mumbai Indians. The BCB opted to ensure that their star bowler was well-rested and injury-free prior to the crucial World Cup stint. Bangladeshi fans will hope for their star pacer to deliver in the UK from June and will hope he regains his mindset after opening a new chapter in his personal life.
