Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal all praise for Kohli after Trent Bridge hundred

Kohli scored 103 following his 97 in the first innings, aggregating 200 runs in the Test, for the second time in this series.

Indian captain Virat Kohli hit his 23rd Test century in the second innings of the third Test at Trent Bridge. The century took him ahead of Mohammad Azharuddin (22) and equalised his tally with Virender Sehwag though 34 matches faster. Kohli scored 103 following his 97 in the first innings, aggregating 200 runs in the Test, for the second time in this series.

His feat earned accolades from various players from across the globe – former as well as current. Besides former England captain Michael Vaughan, former Bangladeshi captain and current opener Tamim Iqbal also praised Kohli for his ton which took India to a strong position in the Test against England and keep their hopes of winning the series alive.

Tamim cannot believe it

“@imVkohli is unbelievable what a innings,” tweeted Iqbal, who has played 56 Tests and 182 ODIs for Bangladesh.

India were 302 for the loss of 5 wickets in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 470 runs with more than two days to go. Kohli, who was dropped on 93 by Keaton Jennings in the fourth slip off James Anderson, put up 113 runs for the third wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara (72) and 57 runs with Ajinkya Rahane for the fourth wicket. Rahane was batting on 25 with Hardik Pandya (12 not out) at the time of publishing.

India bowled out England for 161 in their first innings after the hosts saw a dramatic collapse from 54 for no loss after lunch on Day 2 of the game. India scored 329 in their first innings and gained a 168-run lead, thanks to a clinical bowling effort.

Kohli now has 58 international tons

Kohli now has 58 international hundreds, 42 lesser than former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 tons. In Tests, only Tendulkar (51), Rahul Dravid (36) and Sunil Gavaskar (34) have more centuries than the current Indian captain although his hundred-scoring pace is faster than all the other top batsmen in the list.
