Friday is a special day for Bangladesh and their people. It is a weekly government holiday but also a day which is considered to be religious one for them. And Bangladesh Cricket team has a history of recording some famous wins on Friday making the religious day a special one.
Against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2017, Bangladesh recorded a memorable win, one of the greatest comebacks ever in the ODI cricket coming off from 33/4 chasing a target 266 runs to stay alive in the competition. In case if Bangladesh qualifies to semis, the game will go down as one of the finest ever wins down the lane in Bangladesh cricket as they have never come that long in an ICC event.
Adding to the few great wins, some of Bangladesh’s individual performances too have fallen on Fridays. They recorded their first ever 200-run stand in ODIs vs New Zealand in the CT game while their maiden triple century stand in Tests, which was also against New Zealand came on a Friday earlier in January this year. Their highest individual score in Tests, maiden ODI five-fer also have come on a Friday.
Bangladesh have won 21 ODI matches out of the 58 they played on Friday and 5 out of the 11 in T20Is. They have got a slightly better record on Sundays as they won 24 out of the 48 ODI and 5 out of the 15 T20Is they played on Sundays. However, Friday has seen some significant wins for Bangladesh like their first win in Asia Cup and first win in the Champions Trophy.
Bangladesh’s first Asia Cup win came in 2004, after 16 consecutive losses since their first appearance in 1986 while they lost 7 consecutive games in the Champions Trophy from 1998 before finally winning one in 2006. In a historic game in 2012 where Sachin Tendulkar completed his 100 centuries in International cricket, Bangladesh spoiled the great occasion for India by defeating them.
