Batsman adjudged lbw despite ball hitting the middle of the bat in ECS T10; called back after the blunder
The batsman, after being called back, didn't make much of a difference scoring only two runs off 9 balls.
The European Cricket Series (ECS) T10 Gothenburg leg is currently in progress. After 21 close matches, four teams qualified for the knockouts and the winner will be decided on Friday. The tournament is already in the news for some of the questionable actions from a few players and an incident on Thursday has once again sought everyone’s attention.
During the last league game between Linkoping CC and Seaside CC the other day, Saad Khan, the batsman, was given out by the umpire despite the ball hitting the middle of his bat. The incident took place during the second innings when Linkoping CC was chasing 74 in 10 overs and the first over was being delivered by Ibrahim Khan.
Saad Khan was facing his first delivery and he defended it on the front foot with the ball hitting the middle of the bat. For some reason, the bowling team appealed and the umpire promptly upheld it to leave the batsman shocked. The video of the same has gone viral on social media with many questioning the decision even as the side angle clearly showed that the pad was nowhere near the bat or ball and it was a proper defensive shot.
Here’s the video:
However, the umpire might have realised the blunder he made later as Saad Khan was called back. But it didn’t make much of a difference as he literally struggled scoring only two runs off 9 deliveries.
Linkoping CC lost the match despite having nine wickets in hand
As far as the match is concerned, after opting to bat first, Seaside CC somehow managed to post 73 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 10 overs. Aamir Mushtaq and Muhammad Moeez were the best bowlers for the Linkoping CC picking two wickets each. For the SSD, only Shivakumar and Imam reached double-digit scores.
Linkoping CC had no business to lose this game but after a poor start, thanks to Saad Khan, they could never accelerate despite not losing a wicket after that. Ankit Naik and Adeel Asghar played out the remaining overs and the team could reach only 66 in the stipulated 10 overs losing the match by 7 runs.
