Young Pakistani leg spinner Shadab Khan entered the record books as the youngest overseas player to feature in the Big Bash League. Shadab turned up for the Brisbane Heat in their opening fixture of BBL 2017-18 against the Melbourne Stars. At 19 years and 77 days, Shadab was the youngest ever to play in the iconic T20 league. Much to his happiness, he had a good debut for the Heats, who won the fixture against the Stars.

Soon after the game, English batsman Ben Duckett took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express his excitement for the Big Bash League. He remarked that everything about the BBL is so exciting – from the crowds to the matches. He further went on to quote that Shadab Khan looked fantastic on his debut in the league. He predicted that Shadab will go on to take a lot of wickets for the Brisbane Heat this season.

Here is the tweet:

“Everything about the Big Bash is so good. The cricket, the fans and the commentary. so good to watch! @76Shadabkhan is gonna take a lot of wickets. #BBL07,” wrote Ben Duckett.

Almost a dream debut

Talking about the match, Shadab Khan had a decent debut. Albeit he went for 41 runs in his quota of four overs, he managed to take two big wickets. He dismissed English hard-hitting batsman Luke Wright. He also bagged the big wicket of Glenn Maxwell, one of the most impactful players in the Melbourne Stars lineup.

Shadab returned with figures of 2/41 in his four overs. Commenting on the course of the game, the Brisbane Heat posted a mammoth 206/7 on the board riding on fifties from Joe Burns and Alex Ross. In response, the Melbourne Stars came very close to registering a win with Marcus Stoinis singlehandedly marching on with an unfortunate 99. Stoinis was run out on 99! They could only muster 191 runs on the board to concede a 15 run win for the Heats.
