BBL 2017-18: Big names from national squad to be released for BBL final
The first match of the tri-series will be played on February 3 between Australia and New Zealand.
The Australian cricket team has had a mixed season thus far. After clinching the historic Ashes, the team saw a disappointing outing in the ODI series. A 4-1 ODI series defeat beckoned team Australia. And now, the Aussies are set to host England and New Zealand for a tri-nation T20I series. The Australian selectors have named a very young and dynamic squad for the fixtures.
A lot of players have been rewarded for their stellar show in the Big Bash League (BBL) this season. Among the lot, the name of D’Arcy Short remains to be the most prominent. The hard-hitting batsman, who the national selector Mark Waugh has hailed as the next David Warner, also fetched an IPL deal this year owing to his exceptional run of form.
Now, as per the recent reports, the team management has decided to release some of the key members of the T20I squad for the finals of the BBL 2017-18 season. The three players who are set be in action in the BBL finals from the national squad are Travis Head, Alex Carey, and D’Arcy Short. The finals of the BBL will be played between the Adelaide Strikers and the Hobart Hurricanes on the coming Sunday.
The match will take place at Adelaide. The team management wants to ensure that the the trio will be able to play for the national side in the tri-series and also, make it to their respective BBL sides for the final as well. The first match of the tri-series will be played on February 3 between Australia and New Zealand. After the conclusion of the match, the trio will head to Adelaide for the BBL finals.
Back to the Australia camp after the finals
After playing the BBL finals, they will be back with the national side. The next fixture for the tri-series willbe played against England at Blundstone Arena, in Hobart, on Wednesday (February 7). Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the Adelaide Strikers fast bowler Billy Stanlake will not be playing in the BBL final. The primary reason behind this is that the team management does not wish to overload their pace bowlers.
