Will the Scorchers register a hat-trick of wins?
The action returns to the brand new Perth Stadium in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) as the hosts Scorchers will play their fourth home game of the season. The in-form Hobart Hurricanes will face them who are coming off a brilliant 59-run win over the Melbourne Stars. Languishing at the seventh position, Perth are finally finding their feet in the tournament it seems and will be looking to make it a hat-trick of victories.
It won’t be easy for them though with the Hurricanes playing like Champions this year after missing out on the title last season. D’Arcy Short is coming of age once again and is scoring in almost every game. The team would just be hoping that the left-hander hasn’t peaked a little too early. Moreover, the Hurricanes are also bereft of the issues of their players leaving for the national team which has helped them in being consistent.
The Scorchers, on the other hand, are dealing with the exclusions of Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff. Though the team has coped well in their absence with the likes of David Willey and Nathan Coulter-Nile putting their hands up. The batsmen led by Cameron Bancroft have also gained form which has played a more important role in winning their last couple of matches.
Pitch and Conditions
All the three matches at the venue this season have been won by the teams batting second which clearly indicates that both the sides will opt to field first after winning the toss. After a couple of low scoring encounter, a total of 178 runs was easily gunned down which bodes well for the batting heavy side like Hurricanes. The temperature will hover in the 20s right through the match duration with no chances of rain at all.
Team Combinations
Perth Scorchers
The Scorchers have left out William Bosisto for Ashton Agar in the squad as the latter has recovered from the ankle injury. This is a big boost for them as Agar can contribute with both bat and ball. Cameron Bancroft and Michael Klinger will open the innings while Sam Whiteman and Ashton Turner have found their groove at the important time of the season.
The bowling was never a problem for them and the management will hope that Coulter-Nile, Tye and Willey coupled with Agar and Qadir continue to trouble the opposition.
Probable XI: Cameron Bancroft, Michael Klinger, Sam Whiteman (wk), Ashton Turner, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, David Willey, Matthew Kelly, Andrew Tye, Usman Qadir.
Hobart Hurricanes
The Hurricanes have made one change to their squad with Jake Doran joining CA XI to play in the warm-up game against Sri Lanka. Caleb Jewell has been included in the squad but he will have to wait for his chance it seems. Alex Doolan is in the wings and will replace Doran in the playing XI. Having said that, the onus will be on D’Arcy Short, George Bailey and Matthew Wade with the bat.
The bowling attack is also strong with the likes of Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith, Johan Botha and James Faulkner making an impact in almost every game.
Probable XI: D’Arcy Short, Matthew Wade (c & wk), Alex Doolan, Ben McDermott, George Bailey, Simon Milenko, James Faulkner, Johan Botha, Jofra Archer, Clive Rose, Riley Meredith.
Probable Top Performers
