BBL 2018-19: Match 48, Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers: Fantain Fantasy Cricket Tips
It’s a heated battle for avoid the ignominy of being crowed the winner of the ‘wooden spoon’.
Match 48 of the Big Bash League presents the battle of the “cellar-dwellers”. After eleven matches each, the Heat have well and truly run out of steam and the Scorchers aren’t breathing fire anymore. With just seven and six points in their respective kitty, Brisbane and Perth are out of contention and will play for pride only.
Both teams suffered humiliating losses in their most recent fixtures. While Brisbane was hammered by 9 wickets by Hobart, Melbourne handed Perth a 78 run defeat.
Likely Playing XI –
Brisbane Heat
McCullum, Bryant, Lynn(C), Renshaw, Cutting, Pierson (WK), Ross, Lalor, Mujeeb, Swepson and Doggett.
The Heat had the wherewithal with them all season long but just failed to fire as a unit. How else could you explain a team with the likes of McCullum, Chris Lynn, Ben Cutting and Mujeeb not battling to qualify.
Much was expected from Mujeeb but he really hasn’t set the league on fire this year. Yes, he has been miserly but there isn’t too much to show in the wickets column.
What’s more, Chris Lynn’s form has troubled the side as well. He would have loved to have led by example but the runs just haven’t come as frequently as he would have liked.
Perth Scorchers
Shaun Marsh, Bancroft (WK), Mitchell Marsh (C), Cartwright, Coulter-Nile, Tye, Turner, Inglis, Kelly, Behrendorff and Qadir.
It’s been a truly forgettable campaign for Perth. With just three wins to show from eleven matches, the franchise has been in tatters this season. Josh Inglis might get a game at the expense of Nick Hobson but barring that, don’t expect too many changes.
Mitchell Marsh has the hard task of leading a battered Perth and somehow conjure up a win to help his side get off the bottom of the table.
Hot Picks
Chris Lynn: despite being in edgy form, Lynn is always a good gamble in T20 cricket. When he comes good, he’s quite simply a one-man batting army
Ben Cutting and Mitchell Marsh: these are two talented all-rounders and make for strong picks to bolster your all-rounder category
Cameron Bancroft: The opening batsman has been in relatively good touch and coupled with his keeping abilities, Bancroft becomes a good wicket-keeper batsman candidate for your Fantain XI
Mujeed and Behrendorff: the Afghan teenager bowls tight and is highly economical. If only he could get wickets as well, Brisbane would have been much better off. Meanwhile, Behrendroff always makes for a good pacer-pick in your squad.
