BBL 2018-19: Mixed reactions surface on Twitter after Ben Cutting injures himself badly
A cut for Cutting.
The match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades witnessed Australia’s Ben Cutting injuries himself as he made a mockery of a catch. The Heat were put into bat first in the match. However, the batsmen failed to deliver and they ended up putting a minimalistic score on the board.
Courtesy a 47-ball 50 from Brendon McCullum, the side got to 144/8 in 20 overs. In this innings, Ben Cutting came down the order and scored a quickfire 20 which came off just 10 balls. It was during the first over of the chase when the all-rounder injured himself.
Get your head out of the way, Cutsy!
It is a basic rule that a fielder should position his head away from the direction of the ball while taking a catch. However, Ben Cutting seemed to have forgotten himself and took a hard blow right on his face. On the fourth ball of the over, Marcus Harris mistimed one into the air off James Pattinson. The ball flew miles up after it took the top-edge and Cutting ran across from mid-wicket in an attempt to take the catch.
The 31-year-old went reverse cup to take the catch. But, the ball slid through his fingers and hit him hard on the face. He took a while to get back to his senses and his nose started bleeding. There was also some bleeding from his forehead. Yet, he got up and walked back towards the dressing room with a smile on his face. After some deliberation, the television umpire deemed it to be not out.
What was heartening to see was that Ben Cutting came back onto the field and bowled the 15th over of the game. Though he conceded 13 runs in that over and his side ultimately lost the game by 8 wickets. There was sympathy, praise as well as some mockery for him on Twitter after he grounded that catch. There were five stitches on his face before he returned to the field. Hence, there was some analogy drawn between Cut and Cutting.
