BBL 2018: Melbourne Stars rope in two big names for next season
Bravo and Rashid are presently representing CSK and Yorkshire respectively.
The Melbourne Stars finished as the cellar dwellers of the 2017-18 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). The franchise managed only a couple of wins in ten matches. The team only managed to beat the Melbourne Renegades and the Hobart Hurricanes once each. Moreover, they finished with an abysmal Net Run Rate of -0.926, which meant that they were beaten black and blue.
The team must be desperate to turn their fortunes around and make a strong statement in the upcoming season of the T20 tournament. As per reports in Fox Sports, they have signed Dwayne Bravo, the Windies all-rounder, along with Adil Rashid, the English leg-break bowler for the next season. However, the Stars refrained from dropping a comment when contacted about the signings.
Change of teams for Rashid and Bravo
The team had a couple of overseas vacancies after Luke Wright and Kevin Pietersen left the franchise. Wright bid adieu to the Stars after playing seven seasons for them, while Pietersen already mentioned the previous season to be his last as a player. Dwayne Bravo played for the Renegades last season. The 34-year old cricketer had a superlative season last time around.
He picked up 18 wickets in 11 matches and was joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament along with Afghan tweaker Rashid Khan. Meanwhile, Adil played nine matches for the Adelaide Strikers in the league and snapped 16 wickets. Both Bravo and Rashid are expected to be valuable additions to the team in order for them to make amends for a horrendous season last time around.
Bravo is currently playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has played a pivotal role in CSK’s journey to the final thus far. Rashid, on the other hand, is playing for Yorkshire in the Royal London Cup and his plying his trade around international stars like Cheteshwar Pujara, a stalwart of the Indian lineup.
