Perth Scorchers started the New Year with a big victory over the Brisbane Heat after suffering back to back losses in the last week of 2019. On a slow track at the Carrara Oval, the Scorchers finished on 149/6 with help of a fifty from Cameron Bancroft. The Brisbane team couldn’t get going on the tricky track as they were seven down by the end of 11th over with just 51 runs on the board. Zahir Khan (19*) and Ben Laughlin (17), batting at No.11 and No.10 respectively, helped Brisbane to reach 109.

A tough venue for the Heat:
4 – The Brisbane Heat lost all the four BBL matches they played at the Carrara Oval. They lost to Hurricanes and Sixers in the 2018-19 BBL while the Stars and Scorchers defeated them in the ongoing season.
Laughlin @ 100:
100 – Ben Laughlin became the first player to bag 100 wickets in the Big Bash League with the two wickets in this game. Laughlin claimed 60 wickets for Adelaide Strikers, 35 wickets for Hobart Hurricanes and five wickets for Brisbane Heat.
A new feat for Zahir:
1 – Zahir Khan became the first No.11 to top-score in an inning in the Big Bash League. Two players top-scored in a BBL inning while batting at No.10 before Zahir – Ben Laughlin (22) in the 2014-15 season while playing for Strikers against Sixers and Clive Rose (32*) for Hurricanes in this season also against the Sixers.
19* – Zahir Khan’s unbeaten 19 is now the 2nd highest score in the BBL for No.11 batsman. Mujeeb ur Rahman struck 27 batting at No.11 position also for the Brisbane during the last season’s opener against the Adelaide Strikers. Fawad Ahmed also scored 19 runs at No.11 position earlier this season in the game against the Sixers.
19 – The Brisbane’s innings against the Scorchers is only the 6th instance in the BBL where no player scored 20 runs. (Where all 11 players batted) This is also the first such instance for the Heat in the league.
Milestones for Fawad and Marsh:
52 – Fawad Ahmed became the 15th player to claim 50 wickets in the Big Bash League with the first of the three wickets he took in this game. Fawad is only the 4th spin bowler with 50 wickets in the BBL.
1005 – Runs Mitchell Marsh has aggregated in the Big Bash; the 31st player to this milestone in the league. Marsh is only the 4th player to score 1000 BBL runs for Perth Scorchers after Shaun Marsh (1435), Michael Klinger (1284) and Ashton Turner (1049).
