The T20 leagues have increased the value of the shortest version of the game, quite impressively. Since the beginning of Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008, all the cricket boards were in a quest to start their own cricket leagues to earn big money. However, none of the leagues around the globe he been able to achieve what IPL has, in terms of revenue or overall success.
The main reasons for the same are- the love Indians have for cricket and the exclusivity of Indian players. The Indian cricketers are the biggest superstars of the game and as per the BCCI rules, none of the them, who have a BCCI contract or an IPL contract can play in any foreign leagues.
However, there has been a lot of noise against this motion as the players, who are not getting a chance in the national side, want to try their luck outside the country. Big Bash League (BBL)- Australia’s prime T20 League is arguably the second-best, right behind the IPL. It involves money, the atmosphere, the innovations and the quality of cricket.
After the recent reports of Yuvraj Singh joining BBL, the excitement of watching Indian players in a premier foreign league is on an all-time high. However, as Yuvraj announced that he will start playing again for Punjab’s domestic side, he won’t be able to participate in BBL considering the BCCI clause.
Here are the Top 3 players who can feature in BBL 2020-21: –
1. Pravin Tambe
Pravin Tambe is the archetype of ‘age is just a number’. He started playing in the IPL at the age of 41 and went on to become one of the most valuable spinners of the exhibition. The leg-spinner didn’t play a single first-class game before the IPL but the T20 fame awarded him a place in Mumbai’ Ranji side. Now, Tambe is the perfect example of a T20 specialist bowler.
Seven years later, the leggie was still picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 13th season of IPL, but BCCI cut short his dream of playing another season. As the wrist-spinner played in a T10 league in Dubai, he was not allowed to participate in the IPL. However, KKR’s sister team Trinbago Knight Riders chose him in the players draft and he played in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020.
His performance in CPL has been pretty decent. Also, as the grounds are quite large in Australia, the leg spinner can play a significant role there. Thus, Tambe can be a very clever pick in the players draft of BBL 2020-21. Don’t be surprised if you see the 48-year-old running around in the large Australian grounds.
