BBL 2020-21: David Warner likely to skip the tournament due to bio-bubble fatigue
He is currently playing in the IPL in UAE leading SRH.
Australia’s opening batsman David Warner is unlikely to play the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL). The tournament will commence in December and will go on until February next year during Australia’s domestic season. Their top-flight players will be available to feature in the T20 tournament for the last two-three weeks following the series against India.
However, most of them are expected to give BBL a miss given the amount of cricket they would’ve played by then. Most of the Australia players are featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the moment including David Warner who is leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Apart from a handful of players, none of the cricketers have brought their families with them for the IPL this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The case is the same with Warner and he will most probably spend the free time with his family instead of moving from one bubble to another after the India series.
David Warner hasn’t had any conversation with his manager
David Warner’s managed James Erskine, while speaking to Sydney Morning Herald, said that the cricketer hasn’t even spoken to him about playing in the BBL yet which clearly indicates that he isn’t interested in playing then. It’s not to do with the money, it’s to do with whether he wants to do it.
“I haven’t discussed it with him but I would think he’s more than likely to spend time with his family than in the BBL. The fact we haven’t had the conversation probably tells me he won’t,” Erskine said. As far as Australia’s schedule is concerned, it is quite hectic as they will be in the bubble in the IPL till November 10. They will be in quarantine for two weeks then after reaching Australia.
The team will once again in the bio-secure bubble for India series and they will get only a three-week window before travelling to New Zealand. Meanwhile, it is also understood that Cricket Australia (CA) is exploring the possibility of relaxing the restrictions if the COVID-19 situation improves and allow the players to be with their family outside the bubble when the matches are in their home cities.
