BBL 2020-21: Teams, Squads, Fixtures, Timings, Broadcaster, Live Streaming and all other details you need to know
The tournament will follow the usual format of double round-robin and Playoffs between 8 participants over 61 fixtures.
So! It’s that time of the year again. Only that the year is weird, or perhaps, the weirdest. But the world is recovering and the cricketing sphere has gained its momentum back. After the successful conduction of a host of bilateral series, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and the Indian Premier League (IPL), it is time for the 2020-21 season of the Big Bash League (BBL).
The 10th edition of the men’s domestic cricket competition was earlier scheduled to commence from 3rd December, however, it has been delayed by a week and the tournament opener – scheduled between the Hobart Hurricanes and the defending champions Sydney Sixers at the Bellerive Oval – will now be played on 10th December 2020. The current edition of the league will conclude on 6th February 2021.
The tournament will follow the usual format of double round-robin and Playoffs between 8 participants over 61 fixtures, of which 56 will be league-stage fixtures followed by five-game finals series. Cricket Australia has confirmed that the matches will be organized at multiple venues as the improved COVID situation has allowed the lifting of lockdown and free movement can be expected with the reopening of several inter-state borders. Although, only the venues for the first 21 league matches have been announced so far, and the remaining will be confirmed in the due course of time.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Alistair Dobson, the Head of Big Bash League, stated “We have got some really exciting initiatives for the coming season. Innovation and creativity are the hallmarks for the BBL. And we will, hopefully, make some new announcements in the near future that will be exciting. We are optimistic about having overseas players, and there are a number of things (relevant protocols, exemptions, and processes) in place.”
