BBL 2021-22: Young spectator gets his forehead injured after putting down a catch during Hurricanes vs Scorchers clash

The incident took place during the eighth over of the match.

A young on-looker injured himself whilst trying to catch the ball during the Big Bash League (BBL) match between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers in Hobart on Tuesday, December 14. He was left bloodied as the ball directly hit his forehead. The incident took place during the eighth over wherein Hurricanes batter Ben McDermott smashed the ball for a mighty six off Andrew Tye’s delivery.

The youngster in the crowd attempted to catch the ball but wasn’t able to get his hands on it and unfortunately the ball hit him right at his head. He immediately laid down on the Blundstone Arena turf as he got himself injured. The commentators described the way he had missed the ball.

“Oh no. He’s got a bit of blood. We need some medic. He didn’t even realize,” the commentators said on air.

“Hopefully he is all ok. He’s in the hands of the medics. He was surprised wasn’t he,” 7 commentator Jason Richardson said.

Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes faced each other in the 12th match of the BBL

After having won the toss, Perth Scorchers elected to bat first at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart. The team though lost quick wickets they were able to put a competitive total on board for the opposition. Mitchell Marsh dominated the proceedings by hitting a belligerent century off just 60 balls. His knock included as many as six fours and five sixes.

Laurie Evans on the other hand added valuable 40 runs to the team’s account. Perth Scorchers thus posted the target of 183 for the opposition. Whilst chasing the total Hobart Hurricanes’ batting unit also experienced a collapse. The team was reduced to 82-5 in the 12th over. Ben McDermott top-scored for the team adding 41 runs to his account.

However as no batter was able to exude enough resistance, Hobart Hurricanes were wrapped up at 129 as Perth Scorchers won the match by a big margin of 53 runs. Tymal  Mills starred with the ball for the Scorchers picking up three wickets at a healthy economy rate. Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye also clinched two wickets each in the match. Mitchell Marsh was awarded the player of the Match award for his splendid knock.
