TNPL 2024
The Tamil Nadu Premier League was formed in the year 2016 by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. The tournament takes place during July and August every year with eight teams representing eight districts of Tamil Nadu participating in the tournament. The T20 competition has witnessed six seasons so far with Chepauk Super Gillies emerging as the most successful team of the tournament having won the title thrice in 2017, 2019 and 2021 respectively. They were also the joint-winners in the last edition (2022) alongside Kovai.
The other two teams to have won the titles are Salem Spartans (previously Tuti Patriots) in 2016 and Siechem Madurai Panthers in 2018. The inaugural edition of the tournament was inaugurated by former India captain MS Dhoni. The TNPL was started at a time when Chennai Super Kings was banned from the IPL for two years and the league began to make up for the loss of high-profile matches in Chennai.
The seventh edition of the tournament is all set to begin from June 12 with the first match scheduled between Lyca Kovai Kings and Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans in Coimbatore. Chepauk Super Gillies and Kovai are the defending champions of the season after they were named champions last year after the final was abandoned. The live broadcast of the league will be done on the Star Sports Network while the live stream will be available on FanCode.
