BCB appoints an armed guard to protect Shakib Al Hasan after death threats
After facing backlash on social media for attending a Hindu event, Shakib went live on YouTube and apologized for hurting the sentiments of Muslims.
The Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan created havoc when his pictures of attending the Kali Pujo event at Kolkata’s “Amra Sobai Club” on Sunday, November 15 went viral on social media platforms. Shakib received backlash and was brutally bashed for attending a Hindu event.
The whole matter was further aggravated when a man named Mohsin Talukdar from Talukdarpara area in Shahpur under Sylhet Sadar Upazila in Bangladesh went live on Facebook and hurled abuses on the cricketer for hurting religious sentiments.
The man was sporting a sharp weapon and issued some serious death threats to Shakib. He even vowed to walk from Sylhet to Dhaka to kill the 33-year-old. Though Mohsin later released another video where he apologized for giving threats and tried to escape from his house.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, November 18, the team of the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police from the Southeastern Sunamganj district arrested Mohsin from Ronoshi village around 11:15 AM.
Though the accused has been put behind the bars, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) doesn’t want to take any chance with the security of the star all-rounder. Thus, the board has appointed an armed guard for Shakib, who will be there with him all the time.
Giving the information regarding the same, a journalist named Saif Hasnat tweeted, “BCB appointed an armed guard for Shakib’s safety after the allrounder received a death threat on social media.”
Shakib al Hasan publicly apologised for hurting the religious sentiments
After facing backlash on social media for attending a Hindu event, Shakib went live on YouTube and apologized for hurting the sentiments of Muslims. In his statement, the all-rounder clarified that he wasn’t the chief guest at the event and lighted the diya as one of the organizers Paresh Da requested him for the same.
He also explained that he hadn’t inaugurated the event as it was done by Firhad Hakim. Also, Shakib stated that he is a proud Muslim and always tries to practice his religion properly.
“The second issue I want to speak about is sensitive. I want to start by saying I am a proud Muslim and try to practice religion properly. There will be mistakes and that is part of life. I apologize if I have made a mistake and apologize if I have hurt your sentiment.”
“When I was leaving, Paresh da requested me to light a diya. Media requested me to stand for a picture. I stood for two mins in the pandal. The Kali puja was inaugurated much earlier before I arrived by Firhad Hakim,” Shakib had said.
