BCB hands pacer Shahadat Hossain five-year ban after assault on teammate
Back in 2015, Shahadat was also alleged for beating up his 11-year-old domestic help.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has slapped fast bowler Shahadat Hossain with a five-year suspension and has also penalised him with a fine of Taka 3 lakh. The harsh decision was meted out after the 33-year-old launched an assault on his own teammate, Arafat Sunny, while playing for Khulna Division in the ongoing edition of the National Cricket League (NCL).
The incident with the pacer and Sunny, a left-arm spinner occurred during the match against the Dhaka Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Sunday, November 17. The discarded Bangladesh pacer committed a Level 4 offence going by BCB’s Code of Conduct. After the incident, a BCB tournament committee said that Shahadat was called back from Khulna.
As per reports in Cricbuzz, Shahadat accepted his mistake of the outburst on the field. But he couldn’t accept how Arafat gestured at him. Sunny passed a statement that the speedster was not able to shine one side of the leather and it didn’t go down well with Shahadat. It angered the pacer after which the rest of the players came in to restore sanity in the proceedings.
Shahadat Hossain’s controversially-marred career
This is not the first time Shahadat has got himself tangled into unwanted incidents. Way back in September 2015, the fast bowler faced arrest after he hand his wife, Nritto Shahadat, was alleged for beating up their 11-year-old domestic help. The police raided his house after the crying, helpless and injured domestic help was found on a street in the capital city of Dhaka.
The domestic help, Mahfuza Akter Happy appeared to have a swollen eye and said that the couple beat her. As far as his cricket career is concerned, it’s in the doldrums. Shahadat was once reckoned as one of the fastest bowlers in the country. In 2010 during a Test match against India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, he smacked Rahul Dravid on the jaw.
Dravid was taken to the hospital on an immediate basis after which it was known that he sustained a fractured jaw bone. After making his Bangladesh debut in 2005, Shahadat donned the national jersey in 38 Tests, 51 ODIs and 6 T20Is in which he picked up 72, 47 and 4 wickets. Earlier this year, he played for Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
