The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a replacement for Venkatesh Prasad in the Junior Selection Committee of the country. Prasad had to quit his post owing to the conflict of interests issue. He will now be replaced by former Indian cricketer Aashish Kapoor in the Junior Selection Committee. The BCCI confirmed the news on their official website recently.

A press release was issued by the board in this regard. In all, there are three members in the All India Junior Selection Committee. Aashish Kapoor will be joining Gyanendra Pandey and Rakesh Parikh in the team of selectors. Talking about the cricket career of Kapoor, the former off spinner has played four Test matches for the Indian team. He has also represented India in 17 ODIs in his international career.

Furthermore, this included his inclusion in the Indian squad that played in the ICC World Cup in the year 1996. His First Class career was an illustrious one too. He featured in 128 First Class matches and played 93 List A games during his career. He is now set to play a leading role in grooming the young colts of the country.

It is worth noting that Venkatesh Prasad had done a commendable job during his reign in the selection committee. The India U19 team had won the ICC U19 World Cup recently. Prasad took up a bowling coach job with an IPL franchise. Owing to this, he had to quit his job with the BCCI to avoid the conflict of interest. The BCCI has congratulated Aashish Kapoor over his appointment. They hope to see him succeed in his new role.

BCCI’s Press Release

“I wish him all the very best for this endeavour. I am sure he has a lot to offer when it comes to being a part of the junior selection committee with his varied expertise and experience in the game. India have a rich talent pool and it is important to identify the talent at a young age and nurture them,” CK Khanna, Acting President of the BCCI, quoted in a press release issued by the BCCI.
