BCCI concerned over the security of Team India in England

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised questions over the security of the Indian cricket team after the attacks at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. The Indian team has travelled to England for the Champions Trophy and BCCI is concerned about their team.

The board even messaged the International Cricket Council (ICC) about their concerns over security and ICC replied to it as well. They assured the BCCI that they are taking due care to provide top notch security and that is where their focus is at the moment, the board need not worry about its players since the ICC is taking care of it.

BCCI’s message and ICC’s reply

Amitabh Chaudhary was talking to the reporters about the same. He said, “We sent out a message (to ICC) raising our concerns about the security of the Indian team´s travel, accommodation and the playing (area), they responded to it within two hours. They have been sensitized about our concern”.

ICC even released a statement late on Tuesday citing the security of the team. The statement read, “The security situation has been very much front and center of our preparations and we constantly review our procedures to guarantee they are as effective as possible to keep everyone safe.”

The suicide bomb shook the whole England as it killed 22 innocent people and injured over 50. The blast happened at the end of the concert of Ariana Grande and it was horrific for the people who were affected.

The Indian Board after the concerns has now sent a security officer who will ensure that the venues the Indian team visits are all well secured. Neeraj Kumar is the security officer. He was going to travel with the team anyway but was sent in early after the attacks.

“Neeraj Kumar ji was anyhow supposed to travel with the team but had to go early after the attack. He will definitely go to the venues where India is scheduled to play and assess the security,” BCCI told AFP.

India will play their first game of the Champions Trophy against Pakistan. The game will be massive for both sides as it is a short tournament and the losing side will have a huge task on their hands to get into the semis.
