Someone who was a part of many historic moments in modern-day Indian cricket is now a tainted name and nobody really wants to talk about him. From taking the World T20 2007 winning catch to being banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) S Sreesanth has had eventful last few years. Since all doors for an India comeback looked pretty tightly shut the Kerala pacer intended to move to Scotland and play cricket for the associate team.

He had asked the BCCI to help him with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that’d facilitate his transfer to Scotland. But it is now reported that the Indian cricket board has denied him the NOC. “The BCCI has an internal mechanism and it was their disciplinary committee which slapped a life ban on Sreesanth after conducting its own probe in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match fixing case in which he was arrested in 2013,” IANS quoted a source saying.

A couple of years after he was arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of spot-fixing, a Delhi court acquitted Sreesanth and two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates also accused in the case. But the board didn’t divulge from its stand and hasn’t lifted the ban. “The BCCI is the final word when it comes to lifting of bans,” added the source. The Delhi Police has challenged the lower court’s order but there are no details of a hearing slated in the case.

Sreesanth in his time with the Indian team featured in 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 10 T20Is and scalped 87, 75 and 7 wickets respectively. He was always known for his temper and temperamental issues. Since the ban, he has featured in various reality TV shows and recently also contested elections in the Kerala Assembly polls on a Bhartiya Janta Party ticket but couldn’t garner trust from the voters and lost the seat.
