BCCI is all set to rethink the reward for India Women's team
BCCI acting President CK Khanna has expressed his desires to raise the issue of hike in match fees for Women cricketers.
The Indian team had a dazzling stint in the Women’s World Cup 2017 as they ended the tournament as runner-ups. Coming into the tournament, not many thought India would make it to the final but with their regressive efforts on and off the field, Women’s team has been able to put all animadversions to rest.
Considering Team India’s performance in recently concluded World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that it will honour the members of the team in a grand function, the players will be paid 50 lakhs each, whereas, the support staff will get 25 lakhs each.
Team will receive a hike
The Committee of Administration (CoA) confirmed the news after India’s thumping victory over Australia in semi-finals. However, if the reports are to believed, the members present in Special General Meeting (SGM) are all set to rethink on the cash reward and may propose an increase in rewards for their brilliant efforts.
A state unit representative from west zone was quoted by TOI as saying, “I will propose that the cash award should be hiked to Rs 60 lakh for the players and Rs 30 lakh for the support staff. The girls have made us proud and they should rewarded adequately. I think no one should have any objection if they are being paid more.”
When asked that CoA has already taken a decision, the official reminded that any decision pertaining to finance needs to be passed by the general body and there has been precedence that members have hiked the proposed figure of CoA.
“If one can recall after the India vs Australia series, played earlier this year ended, the CoA had announced a cash award of Rs 50 lakh for the Indian men’s team. The general body then decided to increase it to Rs 1 crore per player,” he concluded.
CK Khanna’s stand
Making the case stronger BCCI acting President CK Khanna also expressed his desires to raise the issue of hike in match fees for Women cricketers. “The women cricketers should have a hike in match fees. I will raise the issue at an appropriate forum,” Khanna said on Tuesday.
