The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared the pending dues of the head coach of the India U19 World Cup winning team Rahul Dravid. The former cricketer has been hogging a lot of limelight recently for his contribution to the Indian cricket in building a strong pool of young players. The boys in blue won the recently concluded U19 World Cup nonchalantly and were completely ruthless in their approach during the tournament.
BCCI, however, paid him a total sum of Rs 2.43 Crore as professional fees for the six-month period up to December 31, 2017. They revealed the payment on their official website on Wednesday. The Indian board had also declared a huge amount of prize money for Dravid after India won the title of the marquee event at the U19 level. However, the ‘Wall’ wasn’t amused by the fact that he was awarded the maximum amount of money when compared to the whole squad and the support staff.
Dravid sets an example once again
Rahul Dravid was pretty vocal about him getting all the attention after the young Indian cricketers brought the World Cup for the country. While the whole world was praising him for taking up the challenge of coaching duties of the U19 and India A teams when he was offered the role to coach the senior team, he has preferred to stay in the background and let the team take the whole credit. He also urged the Indian board to pay the equal sum of amount to all involved in the victory.
The BCCI had announced a cash award of Rs 50 Lakh to the head coach Dravid and Rs 30 Lakh to each player of the World Cup winning squad. Also, the other members of the support staff were awarded Rs 20 Lakh each by the Indian board. Though it remains to be seen if the amounts are changed after Dravid voiced his concerns over the disparity in the prize money.
