BCCI secretary wants KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya suspended after the misogynistic comments
Rahul has maintained a low-profile since the issue sparked up.
Team India cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have become a sensation over the social media for all the wrong reasons. The duo, who were the first cricketers on the show ‘Koffee with Karan’, sparked a major controversy with their ‘sexist’ comments. There has been severe criticism for them since then. And now, the BCCI secretary, Amitabh Choudhary wants them to be suspended.
Amitabh has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Committee of Administrators (CoA) to do the same. After CoA chief Vinod Rai recommended a two-match ban, the other member Diana Edulji sought Choudhary’s response. He wants the suspension to be imposed immediately.
The mail sent by Amitabh Choudhary
“Suspension is in any case not punishment and for the reported misconduct, this suspension (pending inquiry) should have happened yesterday itself, considering it was reported early (India Time). Therefore, the suspension must happen immediately.
“It is surprising that the matter is being sought to be disposed of hurriedly and surreptitiously as in the earlier case of sexual harassment.
“Legally, the inquiry can be conducted only in accordance with the provisions of the registered constitution and not sought to be done by an ‘independent committee”.
“In view of the ODI in two days, the team/team management should prepare itself accordingly,” Choudhary wrote in the mail to COA which was accessed by the Mid-day.
Earlier, show cause notices were issued by the BCCI to both of these cricketers. “We have sent show cause notices to Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul for their comments. They have been given 24 hours to give an explanation,” said Vinod Rai. Hardik Pandya has earlier issued his apologies on a social platform and said that he got carried away with the nature of the show. He added that he didn’t mean to hurt anyone.
