The former coach and the legendary leg-spinner of the Indian team Anil Kumble is celebrating his 47th birthday on Tuesday. The wishes are pouring in for him all corners of the cricketing world and the Indian board also was not behind. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted a wish to the Indian stalwart only to face the wrath from his fans for not mentioning him as a legend and the former coach in the message. However, they deleted the tweet after some time and came up with a rejuvenated one correcting their earlier mistake.
Anil Kumble, since stepping down as the coach of the Indian team, has kept himself away from the cricket affairs and is enjoying his post-retirement life. He was selected as the coach by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. Virat Kohli led Indian won every series in their grand home season during his tenure but his relationships with the players had taken a hit especially with the skipper. However, he eventually resigned from the position after ICC Champions Trophy in June citing that Kohli had ‘reservations’ with his style.
It was also reported that things were not going well between the captain and the coach during the series against Australia and things only went from bad to worse during the marquee event in England. The official Twitter handle of BCCI earlier tweeted in their wish to Jumbo, “ Here’s wishing former #TeamIndia bowler @anilkumble1074 a very happy birthday.” Even the birthday boy thanked the board for wishing him. But Indian fans were miffed by the fact that the cricketer was not mentioned as a legend and the former coach by BCCI in their birthday wish.
BCCI changes the tweet
However, after facing the heat from the fans, the board decided to delete the tweet and then came up with a new one in which they mentioned Kumble as ‘a legend’. The new tweet read, “Here’s wishing a very happy birthday to former #TeamIndia Captain Mr. Anil Kumble #Legend #HappyBirthdayJumbo.” Soon the correction was appreciated by the Twitterati as well but didn’t forget to troll them again for not terming him as the former coach.
Here’s the updated tweet:
