BCCI will ask Wriddhiman Saha about his tweet and want to know if he was threatened: Treasurer Arun Dhumal
Saha had shared a screenshot of insulting messages he received from a “respected” journalist.
Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha’s ‘threat’ case has been the talk of the town in the cricket world lately. The 37-year-old, who has been dropped from the Indian team for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, took to Twitter on Saturday (February 19) and shared a screenshot of insulting messages he received from a “respected” journalist.
In a series of messages, the journalist asked Saha for an interview. His tone got harsher as the Bengal cricketer didn’t make any response. The journalist even wrote that he “doesn’t take insults kindly and he’ll remember this.” A deeply-disheartened Saha then took to Twitter and, without naming the journalist, expressed disappointment over the treatment he received. Many members of the cricket fraternity then came forward in Saha’s support, urging BCCI to intervene in the matter.
Secretary Jay Shah will certainly speak to Wriddhiman Saha: Arun Dhumal
The Indian cricket board has also started taking action as Saha will be asked to give more details about the incident. “Yes, we will ask Wriddhiman about his tweet and what is the real incident that has happened,” the BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “We need to know if he was threatened and also the background and context of his tweet. I can’t say anything more. The secretary (Jay Shah) will certainly speak to Wriddhiman,” he added.
Meanwhile, another reason why Saha is news nowadays is because of his sensational revelations. After facing the axe from the Indian squad, the 37-year-old revealed that the national team head coach Rahul Dravid had suggested him to contemplate retirement. On the other hand, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had assured him a place in the side in November last year.
“The team management had told me that I would not be considered henceforth. I could not tell this so long as I was part of the India team setup. Even coach Rahul Dravid suggested that I think about taking retirement,” Saha told mediapersons on Saturday.
“When I hit an unbeaten 61 taking a pain-killer in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur last November, Dadi (as Sourav was referred to by Bengal players) congratulated me over Whatsapp and mentioned, ‘As long as I’m here (helming the BCCI), you would be in the team’,” he had added.
