Ben Stokes unlikely to stay with RPS squad for play offs
Along with Stokes, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes too will leave for national duty.
The most expensive foreign player in the history of IPL cricket, Ben Stokes is expected to return to England for a limited-overs series against South Africa ahead of the Champions Trophy scheduled to be played in England and Wales from 1st to 19th June. Stokes has been an exceptional performer for RPS in this season so far and have excelled in all 3 departments.
His match-winning century against Gujarat Lions proved his hard-hitting prowess while as a bowler he has stemmed the run flow at the back end with some toe crushing Yorkers. The three-match ODI series between England and the Proteas will begin from May 24 but before that, there are two practise games on May 19 and 21.
David Miller and Hashim Amla have already left to join their national squad for the ODI series against England. The England Cricket Board had not included Stokes, Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler for the Ireland series and gave an indication that they might return before the start of the playoffs. The Champions Trophy will be a huge opportunity for England to break their ICC tournament jinx and finally win a 50 over the tournament.
English Trio to leave on 14th May
The trio might leave on 14th May after the last group match of the competition. The all-rounder has been an exceptional player for England and the 25-year-old will definitely look to get into the groove ahead of the Champions Trophy. He will try to finish his IPL 10 campaign on a high and help RPS qualify for the play in the top two positions.
He has excelled with the ball more consistently than the bat it won’t be a big worry for Eoin Morgan and Co. He has the ability to strike some lusty blows and change the complexion of the game within a blink of an eye. England start of their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on 1st June, the same team who knocked them out of 2011 and also the 2015 World Cup.
