Bharat Arun happy to see Mohammed Shami back in form
Shami bagged 4 wickets in the fifth ODI against Windies due to which India triumphed the series 3-1
Indian pace bowlers Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav shined in the fifth and final ODI against the Windies as they were reduced for 205/9. Shami, playing in his second ODI after a long injury lay-off helped India win the series comprehensively. Shami’s figures read 10-0-48-4. Former Indian bowling Coach Bharat Arun was happy to see Shami back to his best. With India touring Sri Lanka later this month, Shami can be instrumental to captain Kohli’s overseas records.
Arun said that Shami’s comeback was quite expected, and his form will make sure the team management keeps enough faith in him. However, Arun also said that Shami, over the course of next five months, has to maintain fitness and not sustain any more injuries to be able to play against South Africa in December.
“It was expected (his comeback). I am very happy to see him bowl with the same pace and vigour, we are used to watching. He did show signs of coming back to form which will keep the team management happy. With the test series coming against Sri Lanka, Shami’e return to form will be key. But we need a fit Shami for the test series coming up against South Africa in December.”
Arun monitored Shami’s rehab
Shami underwent rehab for his injury at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore where Bharat monitored him. Speaking on that, the former Test cricketer said that the support staff at NCA gave in their all to bring Shami back to the game. He also praised Shami’s bowling.
“Shami’s biggest strength has been his pace and the way he can move the ball both ways with the old ball as well. It is difficult for a fast bowler to strike the rhythm straight away but Shami with his smooth run up and high arm bowling action is just away from striking the right form.”
