Bishen Singh Bedi terms ball-tampering incident as 'Cricket's Greatest Tragedy'
The incident will go down as one of the darkest phases in Australian cricket.
Australian cricket has been going through a pretty rough phase following the ball-tampering fiasco. Cameron Bancroft has been caught by the camera inserting a sharp object inside his underpants, which he used for altering the shape of the ball. Steve Smith has admitted to having been aware of the incident in advance in the press-conference of the third day’s play in Cape Town.
The occurring has been severely bashed by people from nook and corner of the country. Steve Smith had to pay a heavy price as he has been handed a one-match ban along with a fine of 100 percent of his match fees. However, most recently former Indian spinner Bishen Singh Bedi has opened up and has termed the happening as sad and tragic.
“Tragedies of modern cricket”- Bedi
“There is no doubt there has been a mistake and the players are responsible for this. The captain has accepted it, acknowledged the mistake, top management has admitted, this is not a handiwork of one or two players. It’s very sad, I would like to think it as one of the great tragedies of modern cricket,” Bedi was quoted as saying by News18.
Meanwhile, he also brought forth the teachings which are delivered to everyone regarding the approach one should employ while playing the game. “According to me, no limit could be prescribed for strict action. We do mislead, misguide kids — winning at any cost is a message that is wrong. Winning is important, but winning by fair means, is the message we must spread,” the former Indian player added.
The incident will go down as one of the darkest phases in Australian cricket. The reputation of their cricket is brutally tarnished. For the time being, it will be interesting to see how cricket in Australia recovers from the jolt, which won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination.
