Bloem City Blazers rope in Allan Donald and Robin Peterson
The duo of Robin Peterson and Allan Donald will provide stability in the coaching set up.
Former South African pacer, Allan Donald has been roped in as the bowling mentor and team ambassador for the Bloem City Blazers ahead of Cricket South Africa’s Global T20 League to be played in November this year. The legendary cricketer will be joined by former Proteas spinner Robin Peterson, who will take up the role of assistant coach.
The 50-year-old has immense experience under his belt. Donald played 72 Test matches and picked up 330 wickets. In ODIs, the Bloemfontein born, former spearhead scalped 272 wickets. He recently requested pacer Morne Morkel, not to accept a ‘Kolpak deal’ and rather represent his country. Donald told the board officials to give Morkel what he wants, as the former great was highly impressed with the pacer’s current form. He had earlier served as Sri Lanka’s bowling coach for the Champions Trophy.
Bloem City Blazers Director of Cricket, Robin Singh, is very happy with the way his background staff is shaping up and sounded optimistic about the base camp.
“South Africa has always been a world-class host, and it would not be any different for the T20 Global League,” he said. “Bloemfontein, even more so with its sporting culture, has fantastic facilities and resources. I have been thrilled to see the support from the Free State Government, Bloemfontein City Mayor, Free State Cricket Union and Knights.”
“As Director of Cricket for Bloem City Blazers, I am extremely delighted to see how the team is coming together. Having Allan Donald and Robbie Peterson on board will be brilliant, they are both experienced and skilled coaches who will add a lot of value to our goal of achieving success at this tournament. We are looking forward to the players’ draft and will get down to team strategy and training as soon as possible,” Singh added.
