Within a year, Bangladesh Premier League has hit the floors with its seventh edition. Compared to previous six editions of the tournament, this year’s edition is touted to be quite unique. All the sides taking part in the tournament have been rechristened as the BCB has done away with the franchises this time.

As the BPL journey progresses, Rajshahi Royals will lock horns with Sylhet Thunders in Match 5 of the tournament at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Royals started off their campaign in style after registering a formidable nine-wicket victory against Dhaka Platoon in their opening match.

Royals did not rely on Andre Russell for delivering a brawny batting knock. Their top-order comprising Hazratullah Zazai, Liton Das and Shoaib Malik guided Royals to the target of 135 runs. Zazai, who scored a brilliant half-century, was assisted by Liton Das (39) and Shoaib Malik (36). Abu Jayed emerged as their best bowlers as he scalped two wickets in his spell.

Sylhet Thunder, on the other hand, had to suffer a defeat against Chattogram Challengers in their inaugural match of the competition. Despite Mohammad Mithun’s heroics, (84 runs off 48 balls) Thunder failed to defend the total of 162 runs. The Mosaddek Hossain-led side will be eager to register their first victory of the tournament.

Pitch and Conditions

With no chances of rain, it is expected to be a perfect sunny day for a cricket match. The temperature is expected to deviate between 24 degrees Celcius throughout the day according to Accuweather. Moderate humidity levels are also expected during the course of play. The wicket is considered to favour the spinners. Hence, the team winning the toss will be looking forward to batting first and posting a competitive total on a spin-friendly wicket.

Along with skipper Andre Russell, Royals will be relying on the likes of Hazratullah Zazai, Shoaib Malik and Ravi Bopara. Bopara was also awarded Man of the Match award in his previous match. Zazai also garnered much attention after scoring 56 runs off 47 balls in their previous match against Dhaka Platoon.

Andre Russell, who delivered decent performances in the recently-concluded Abu Dhabi T10 League, has the potential to turn the tables in his side’s favour. Abu Jayed, who scalped two wickets in his last match, will be leading Royals’ bowling force along with Taijul Islam and skipper Andre Russell.

Thunder’s bowling attack will comprise Nazmul Isman, Ebadat Hossain and Naveen-ul-Haq.
