BPL 2019: Three more Afghanistan players to feature in the upcoming edition
The event starts on January 5.
The upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to take place from January 5, 2019. The tournament was earlier postponed for the reasons that the country would be busy in the General Elections during the fag end of the year. The BPL draft process is currently taking place at the grand ballroom of the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel of the capital.
A total of 373 foreign players along with 186 local players are a part of the auction in Dhaka. In the meantime, three international cricketers from Afghanistan- all-rounder Gulbadin Naib, chinaman Zahir Khan Pakteen and batsman Najibullah Zadran- have already been picked to play for various franchises as per reports in Association Internationale De La Presse Sportive.
A total of 19 Afghan players in the drafts
Naib was one of the prolific wicket-takers for the Balkh Legends in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) and he would be a part of Sylhet Sixers and would get the opportunity to rub shoulders with experienced campaigners like David Warner and Sohail Tanvir. Najibullah Zadran played for Kandahar Knights in the APL, but couldn’t perform as per expectations.
He would feature for Chittagong Vikings, which have the likes of Luke Ronchi and Mushfiqur Rahim. His Afghan teammate Mohammad Shahzad is also a part of the team. Zahir Khan played for Nangarhar Leopards in the APL and did reasonably well. He will play for Khulna Titans alongside the likes of Mahmudullah, Carlos Brathwaite, Lasith Malinga, and Yasir Shah.
A total of 19 Afghan players are part of the drafts. Apart from the three international stars, a number of young stars from the nation has also been included. Shahidullah Kamal, Darwish Rasooli, Zia Ur Rahman, Waqar Salamkheil, who were outstanding in the APL are also taking part in the drafts. It goes without saying that a golden opportunity awaits the youngsters.
