The 2022 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) got underway on Friday (January 21) and two matches took place on the opening day. Khulna Tigers went up against Minister Group Dhaka in the second encounter and the clash witnessed an unbelievable run-out. Dasher Andre Russell became the victim of the unlucky dismissal as Khulna Tigers got an absolute bonus.
It was the 15th over of the first innings and Thisara Perera was operating with the ball. The last ball of the over was a slower delivery and Russell guided it towards the short third man to earn the single. Interestingly, Mahmudullah, Russell’s batting partner, was running towards the danger end as Mahedi Hasan was eyeing to shatter the stumps at the striker’s end.
Andre Russell becomes victim of shocking run-out
The throw did hit the stumps but Mahmudullah was comfortably inside the crease and hence, safe. However, the ball ricocheted from the stumps at the striker’s end and went to the non-striker’s end. Russell, who didn’t seem in any trouble, was lazily walking towards the bowling area. However, the ball reached the end before him and dislodged the bails.

As Russell wasn’t still in, the right-handed batter was adjudged out. Now, this is why cricket is called a funny game. The video of the same went viral in no time as fans couldn’t believe what unfolded in the BPL match.
Speaking of the game, Khulna Tigers won the toss and opted to bowl at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The decision didn’t seem spot on at first at the Dhaka-based team got off to a terrific start. Openers Mohammad Shahzad and Tamim Iqbal added 69 runs for the first wicket, putting their side on command.
While the middle-order couldn’t come to the party, skipper Mahmudullah played a brilliant 39-run came to give his side a brilliant finish. Russell, who smashed a six on his second delivery, looked set to play few more big shots. However, he fell prey to surprise run-out. Hence, it would be interesting to see if the Dhaka team comfortably defends the total or the Tigers cross the line.
